Ruby Watershed Council

The Ruby Watershed Council (RWC) was created and empowered by the Ruby valley Conservation District for the purpose of advising the District with regard to:

· Coordination of watershed planning;

· Education and Outreach;

· Identification of projects;

· Acquisition of funding to implement plans and projects;

· Community collaboration to share information, education and concerns for consideration.

The RWC is composed of 11 voting members including landowners, ranchers, outfitters, business people and conservation organizations present in the Ruby Valley.  Gary Giem is the Chairman and  Les Gilman is the Vice Chairman of the Council.  A technical Advisory committee, involving a wide cross section of private and agency scientists from MT Fish Wildlife and Parks (MTFWP), US Forest Service, Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), MT Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), the Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC), and Madison County officials is also established to provide a sounding board for technical issues and interagency collaboration.

The RWC and RVCD work very closely on all watershed projects.  Both meet monthly, and the Ruby Watershed Coordinator  (Ann Schwend), provides general support services in conjunction with the RVCD administrator (Shirley Galovic) for project support/administration, fund raising, building and maintaining the watershed partnership, and conducting public outreach and education.

Protect the land and preserve our heritage.
