Introducing Our New Conservation Speaker Series Coming This March/April!

UPDATE: Our April Conservation Speaker Series events are relocating to the Thompson-Hickman Madison County Library (217 Idaho Street) in Virginia City. The Madison and Ruby Valley Conservation Districts have teamed up once again to create a brand new annual speaker series, starting this March! This series is specifically focused on natural conservation of the land, and we have four great events coming up to tap into different aspects of conservation! Coming up on March 8th, we have DNRC Regional Manager Kerri Strasheim coming in to talk about shared water rights on rivers that cross several private properties. Then, on March 22nd, John Wagoner of our local NRCS office and Alyssa Piccolomini, a State Entomologist with the MDA, will be talking about the importance of pollinators and pollinator gardens in our ecosystem.

Moving into April, MSU Red Bluff Research Ranch Foreman & PhD Candidate Noah Davis will be discussing the merits of rotational grazing and electric fencing in ranches, and how managing cattle with these practices can benefit the propagation of grasses on the land. Last but not least, Kaleena Miller is an agent with MSU Extension Agriculture & Natural Resources, and she will be providing a lecture on the importance of soil health and how to ensure that your soils can stay healthy.
